About Me
I received my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1977. My training included extensive coursework, practicums, traineeships, a year of internship, and the writing of a doctoral dissertation. My internship was at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Palo Alto, California. This was a teaching hospital for Stanford Medical School.
I practiced in the Atlanta and Chicago areas before moving to Kansas City in 1997. During my 47 years of practice, I have worked in a variety of settings, including private practice, clinics, a mental health center, and hospitals. I have also been active in providing personal growth classes, in-service training to the community, and supervision and consultation to graduate students and professionals.
I have specialized in working with adults, individually and in couples. I have worked successfully with many types of people with many kinds of difficulties and challenges, including depression and other mood problems, anxiety, trauma recovery, relationship and family problems, job and career challenges, physical illness, grief, divorce, substance abuse, personal growth, and meaning of life issues.
I am licensed to practice in Missouri and Kansas. I study professional literature and attend continuing education workshops on a very regular basis to keep my knowledge and skills continually updated.
