PROFESSIONAL CONSULTATIONS

Being an effective psychotherapist, counselor, or people professional is a highly challenging proposition!  It requires extraordinary degrees of presence and authenticity, awareness and acceptance,  sensitivity and judgment, compassion, maturity, flexibility and creativity, many different kinds of skills, raw courage, and a sense of humor.  It also requires high quality support.

I provide professionals with supportive consultations on the challenges they are facing in their work, both generally and with specific clients.  The consultations can be in my office or over the phone (when possible, I prefer to have at least one face-to-face meeting before beginning phone consultations).  Consultations in other locations or for small groups of professionals are available at somewhat higher fees.  The length of a given consultation is determined by mutual consent.  (See the answer to the fee question on the "Frequently Asked Questions" page.)

In my consultation relationships, I attempt to provide people with the acceptance and solid support they need to openly consider the questions and concerns they have in their work.  While I may offer ideas on useful options with a particular client or situation, it remains the professional's responsibility to decide how to interact with that client and whether to utilize the input from me.  I do not provide supervision.

I began providing peer consultations over 34 years ago, have provided formal clinical supervision for Master's- and Doctoral-level therapists and
counselors in clinic and university settings, and find consulting a deeply satisfying activity.

I provide substantive support and useful new ideas for being
consistently and increasingly effective in serving your clients.

Please call me at (816)590-9545 if you have any questions or want to set up a consultation.  (You may want to review the "Marty's Approach" page to learn how I view my own work with clients.)

Thank you very much!
